Job Description – Java Microservices Architect / Lead Engineer (Payments Domain)

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, high-performance applications using Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and AWS.
• Architect complex distributed systems supporting high-volume, real-time payment transactions.
• Build and integrate payment solutions involving ACH, RTP, Zelle, SWIFT, Fedwire, and other payment networks.
• Drive end-to-end system architecture, including API design, event-driven architecture, asynchronous processing, and microservices communication.
• Implement secure transaction processing, payment orchestration, reconciliation, and exception handling.
• Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, scalability, disaster recovery, and system reliability.
• Apply security best practices, including encryption, authentication, authorization, and regulatory compliance.
• Lead technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and performance optimization initiatives.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, security, and business stakeholders.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on expertise in Core Java, Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, REST APIs, and Microservices.
• Experience with AWS services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, and CloudWatch.
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation.
• Experience with Kafka or similar event-driven messaging platforms.

• Strong understanding of payment processing lifecycles, transaction flows, settlement, and reconciliation.
• Hands-on experience with payment rails such as ACH, RTP, Zelle, SWIFT, and Fedwire.
• Understanding of ISO 20022 messaging, payment gateways, and banking integrations.
• Knowledge of payment failures, retries, duplicate prevention, idempotency, and exception handling.

• Advanced expertise in High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD).
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, consistency, scalability, and fault tolerance.
• Experience designing highly available, low-latency, high-throughput transaction processing systems.
• Knowledge of caching, database optimization, message queues, circuit breakers, and distributed transactions.

• Strong understanding of secure coding, OAuth 2.0, JWT, TLS, encryption, and API security.
• Familiarity with applicable banking regulations, PCI DSS, and financial data protection requirements.
• Experience with observability, monitoring, logging, incident management, and disaster recovery.
• Ability to design resilient systems with strong transaction integrity and auditability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with leading banks, financial institutions, or payment technology companies.
• Prior experience architecting enterprise-scale payment platforms.
• Strong problem-solving, technical leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
• AWS certifications or relevant architecture certifications are an advantage.
